ENTERGY OPEN GRANT RECEIVED

Friends of Kountze Public Library Receive Entergy Open Grant

The Friends of Kountze Public Library have received an Entergy Open Grant in the amount of $750. The grant check was awarded by Mic Cowart on August 7 and will be used to fund the purchase of electronic content for Kountze Public Library patrons through Overdrive. The library became a member of the Piney Woods Consortium in May of this year and patron response has been tremendous. We invite our patrons to check the Piney Woods (Overdrive) catalog soon for new titles provided by the Entergy grant. The link to Piney Woods (Overdrive) can be accessed through the library website at kountzelibrary.org or by going to http://pwdl.lib.overdrive.com.

Friends President, Elaine Allums, said, “The Friends Organization is happy to be a recipient of this Entergy Open Grant on behalf of the library. We appreciate the support of Entergy in funding the projects of agencies that serve Southeast Texas communities.”

Since January 2012, more than $274,000 in grant funding has been awarded by Entergy.

FOUNDATION FOR SOUTHEAST TEXAS GRANT 2012

The Friends of Kountze Public Library Organization was the proud recipient of a grant from the Foundation for Southeast Texas. On May 2, an awards ceremony was held in the Auditorium of the Foundation's building in Beaumont where the $1,050 check was received by Laverne Crysel, Library Director.
Jo Ann Redmon and Tessa Johnson represented the Friends group at the ceremony.  Funding from the grant will pay for Texas Summer Reading Club performers and materials for collection development.
Laverne Crysel and Friends of Kountze Public Library would like to express their gratitude to the Foundation for this grant that will enable them to improve library services.

The Foundation for Southeast Texas is led by a board of 30 leaders from Hardin, Jefferson and Orange counties. It was established in late 1996 to respond to continuously changing and emerging community needs. It is different from other foundations in that it can address areas of concern including: arts and culture, preservation, education, health, social services, youth, the elderly, economic development, faith groups and civic affairs. According to its website, "The mission of the Foundation for Southeast Texas shall be to make a positive difference in the quality of life in the area by encouraging philanthropic gifts and by assisting donors in achieving their charitable goals through the professional management and considered and caring distribution of such gifts."

Since 1998, the Foundation has granted almost two million dollars to nonprofits in Southeast Texas and to other national nonprofits who serve their communities through designated, donor-advised and unrestricted funds. The Foundation also provides another service for nonprofits. It owns an attractive, newly refurbished building in downtown Beaumont. Office suites are leased to nonprofit organizations at below market rates. The lease includes wireless internet access and the use of three meeting rooms with state of the art furnishings for conferences, meetings and training."
