Major Corporate and
Foundation Donors



The T.L.L. Temple Foundation was established in 1962 by Georgia Temple Munz in honor of her father, Thomas Lewis Latane Temple, an East Texas lumberman.
Donation: $100,000.

The Brown Foundation, Inc. was founded in July 1951 by Herman and Margaret Root Brown and George R. and Alice Pratt Brown.
Donation: $25,000.

The Rockwell Fund, Inc. is a Houston-based private foundation created in 1931 under the will of James M. Rockwell. The corpus was later increased by bequests of the founder’s widow, Sarah, daughter Lillian and sons James W. and Henry.
Donation: $25,000.

The Hillcrest Foundation of Dallas was founded in 1957 by Mrs. W. W. Caruth, Sr. (Earle Clark Caruth), to provide financial support to qualified charitable organizations in Texas.
Donation: $25,000.

The Kountze Woman’s Club has been a member of the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs since 1961, when they began work to establish the Kountze Public Library as their service project.
Donation: $17,000.

The Gilbert M. and Martha H. Hitchcock Foundation of Omaha, Nebraska, was founded in honor of Senator Gilbert M. Hitchcock, who was elected to Congress in 1901 and to the Senate in 1911. President of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation is Denman Kountze, a relative of the founders of Kountze.
Donation: $10,000.

South Hampton Refining Company is an independent, small refiner established forty-five years ago, whose original purpose was to upgrade natural gasoline into a finished product for the local Silsbee market. It has emerged as a strongly competitive specialty petrochemical processor.
Donation: $10,000.

The Swalm Foundation is a Texas nonprofit corporation which funds worthy activities in the religious, charitable, scientific, literary and educational fields.
Donation: $5,000.

The Foundation For Southeast Texas, established in 1996, is a community foun-dation with a not for profit status, serving Hardin, Jefferson, and Orange counties.
Donation: 2 grants totaling $3,803.

The B. A. & Elinor Steinhagen Benevolent Trust, created in 1939, has provided a wide variety of charitable services to disadvantaged individuals in our area. B. A. Steinhagen was a prominent citizen of Beaumont, who was active in water conservation activities. The 15,000 acre B. A. Steinhagen Reservoir is named for him.
Donation: $3,000.
