Kountze Library-A Community Bargain

Kountze Public Library—A Community Bargain

Summer is a great time to take a fresh look at today’s public libraries. Even though they offer the traditional wide assortment of books for all members of the family, visitors are often pleasantly surprised at the diversity of today’s library services.
The library uses social media to inform Facebook fans about upcoming programs and new services. It’s a fun place where families can read together or use the computers and free WiFi for their tablets, phones or laptops. WiFi is available 24/7 and no password is needed.
Copies may be made from computers as well as from the public access copier for 20c per page.
Seven computers are dedicated for children and do not have Internet access.
Two of them feature ABC Mouse software for kids as young as 2 years. The Step into Reading books are a great resource for early literacy help.
Texas Summer Reading Club is co-sponsored by the Woman’s Club of Kountze (founders of the library in 1961) and Friends of the Library organization (begun in 1998). Reading Club programs are held on Tuesdays in June at 10AM in the Bevil Meeting Room. All children and their families are invited to come and learn while being entertained by great program presenters. There is no charge for any of the programs.
Notary service is available Monday through Friday 1-5 PM at no charge.
(Please call 409 246-2826 for availability before making long trips).
Staff- assisted faxing is $1 per page.
Digital signage is featured in the library to keep visitors up to date about everything from the latest movies, books and audiobooks that are new in the library to how to renew a driver’s license online.  Texshare Databases are available through Texas State Library. At this time there are over 50 databases (including full-text journal articles), legal forms (some free) and medical information. The databases can be accessed by Texas residents with login information from the library.
OverDrive E-books and E-audiobooks are also free to library card holders through the Piney Woods Digital Consortium.
The Library Trek mobile app lets patrons check their Kountze Library account and search the online catalog. Libraries offer excellent volunteer opportunities for students, (ages 16 and up), and for adults, (women and men), who want to “give back” to their communities.
Librarians offer Reader’s Advisory to patrons who are looking for just the right read. If you have any questions about library services or programming, call
409 246-2826. Hours of operation are Monday 9-6, Tuesday-Friday 8:30-5:30 and Saturday 9:30-12:30.
